QMill

QMill develops quantum-advantage algorithms for near-term quantum computers to solve complex problems beyond the reach of existing supercomputers. With Bou’s help, the brilliant complexity of quantum physics was transformed into a clear, inviting website, narrative-rich visual identity, and a series of high-quality headlines supporting QMill’s global launch.

From back-in-the-days to back to the future – a visual identity with history
The visual identity draws inspiration from the early days of computing, nodding to the giants on whose shoulders the modern tech world stands. QMill’s algorithms tackle complex problems and continuously process vast amounts of information. This capability inspired the visual elements, reminiscent of an old-time mill that deciphers large quantities of data. The primary goal was to create a timeless feel, portraying QMill as an already-iconic company here for the very long run.
The core colors are black and white – simple as that. Accents of electric blue pay homage to one of the main forms of energy QMill uses, while a hint of powerful orange reflects the strength of QMill’s algorithm. Gold and yellow, inspired by the components in raw materials, bring the finishing touches. The color palette is built to last, just like QMill – a commitment to practicality, longevity, and durability.

Visual style tells a story – we’re on the verge of a quantum leap
The visual style consists of abstract, mystical, space-like images featuring flowing materials – particles, perhaps? It’s a conscious decision to leave interpretation to the beholder’s eye, though the mysterious atmosphere is intentional. After all, we’re on the verge of something world-changing, as the veil between us and that quantum leap is finally about to be lifted.
The logo combines a modern, clear, minimalist symbol representing a millstone with an old-time Serif font. The millstone concept extends to the animation style, where numerous squares rotate and converge into one, reflecting the idea of information being processed within the mill. Beyond the logo, our font choice, Arial Nova, nods to the early Internet days, as Arial has been a classic choice since 1982.
A ‘white-paper’ website with an immersive feel
The website itself communicates a clear vision, stripped of all unnecessary noise. The minimalistic design draws inspiration from scientific publications, prioritizing usability and clarity. Contents are easily accessible without unnecessary gimmicks. On the front page an immersive video captures attention, whereas interactive animations on the subpages balance the otherwise text-heavy content.

Clear copywriting for a complex computing catalyst
When you’re developing deep tech solutions of the future, you need crystal-clear and accessible writing to convey the value of complex technologies to a customer base spanning several industries. We locked ourselves in a room with the QMill boffins until we distilled the essence of what they do – and the resulting web copy conveys that in a way that resonates with QMill’s audiences.

Making rounds in the media: launch PR done the Bou way
Bou led the communications and PR efforts for QMill’s first major funding round, developing a comprehensive PR plan with clearly defined key messages, press materials, and targeted pitches to various international media outlets – including Business Insider, Quantum Insider and The Next Web – to ensure visibility among key target audiences, industry partners, and talent. Additionally, Bou provided the QMill team with media training ahead of key interviews. (Spoiler alert: they did great.)
